Subject: Warrior – Definitely an Oscar Contender
Before we even venture into the details of the craft of the movie I must say. This film was worth every cent I spent to see it. By that I mean the gas used, the snacks purchased, the ticket itself, and the time it took to find the perfect seat. So if you want my rating now: Go see this movie. When it comes out on DVD or Blu-ray purchase a copy, and, when they finally decide to show it on Television, watch it again.
When I bring you news about a film, I always like to express that these are only my opinions, but in this case Warrior was so well done it is an absolute fact that this work should be viewed by all.
The movie centers around two brothers Brendan (Joel Edgerton) and Tommy (Tom Hardy) as they push to create a better life for the people that matter to them most. The way the story progresses, however, tells two very distinctive stories of two very different characters. Brendan is the quintessential good guy in this movie and as his story develops a plot line very similar to underdog stories such as Rocky come to mind as he struggles to make a better life for his family. Tommy, on the other hand, is the loner anti hero of the story. I thought of every Clint Eastwood movie I had ever seen watching Tommy’s story unfold. The quiet bad guy that does good things. Returning home from Afghanistan, the marine fights his way to the top to provide a better life for the family of a fallen comrade.
The fighting style of choice in this movie is MMA and I have to say, even though they are choreographed scenes, the fighting is so well done in this movie. The poetic part of this movie is that each fight represents something different for the fighter and provides a lot of the character development.
Nick Nolte plays the estranged father of the brothers seeking forgiveness from both sons for the darkness of his past. Nolte delivers a surprising preformance that I can only imagine will get him an Oscar nom. at the least.
Overall, I thought this movie was an incredible experience and has been placed in my top 5 movies of all time.
Verdict: Go see in theaters.
